Bio

Lisa Schiller joined NC State University in Dec. 2025 as vice chancellor of communications and marketing, where she leads a team of communications and marketing strategists to elevate the brand and reputation of the university. She is a visionary communications and marketing leader with over 30 years of experience guiding messaging strategy, internal/external communications, marketing and branding, public affairs, and executive visibility. She has a proven track record of enhancing brand equity, navigating crises, and leading integrated campaigns across digital, media, and stakeholder channels. She is known for aligning messaging with business strategy and leading high-performing teams in fast-paced, complex environments.

Schiller previously served as the chief communications and marketing officer (CCMO) for UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine. She started with the organization in 2006, initially joining UNC Health Rex as director of marketing, communications, community relations and government affairs. She was later promoted to vice president of communications and marketing at UNC Health Rex and system VP of communications and marketing for UNC Health. In 2018, she was appointed CCMO, overseeing communications and marketing strategies across UNC Health’s extensive network, which includes 20 hospital campuses, 1,500 provider clinics and 57,000 teammates.

Schiller led efforts in communications, marketing, community engagement, brand, insights and research, digital media, change and culture communications, issues management and crisis communication. She served as a trusted advisor to the CEO/Dean and executive leadership.

Over the years, Schiller’s teams have won numerous national awards, including awards for advertising, websites, campaigns, and more. She is the winner of a PR Week award for Best Use of Broadcast for creating a medical television show and is the winner of a Ragan Communications award for Best Team. Schiller was recognized with the Award for Individual Professional Excellence (lifetime achievement), the highest honor in the field, by the American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development in 2014.

Schiller is actively engaged in the community and nationally in her field. She serves on the Holt Brothers Foundation Board of Directors, Carolina Hurricanes Foundation Board, the Healthcare Executive Forum and is an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Psi – Eta Omega chapter. She is a previous board chair for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern NC. She served a seven-year term for the American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD) Board of Directors, where she is a past president.

Schiller received her bachelor’s degree in communication from James Madison University.
