Secretary of the University and Assistant to the Chancellor
PJ Teal has more than 35 years of higher education experience, including the last 26 years at NC State. As chief of staff to the chancellor, Teal is responsible for the direction and management of Chancellor’s Office activities, including policy, financial operations and staff. As secretary of the university, she oversees the work of the Board of Trustees and board committees, including development of agendas, board correspondence and official board records and reports. She works directly with board chairs, assisting them in fulfilling their vision for their tenure as chair and in organizing board members to best enact that vision. During her 24 years in the Chancellor’s Office, she has worked with six chancellors, including two transition teams in preparation for new leadership. Teal serves as the chancellor’s liaison to the Faculty Senate and to the Chancellor’s Student Liaison Committee, the University Crisis Communication Committee and the Commencement Committee. Prior to coming to NC State, she worked as executive assistant to the director for the UNC Center for Public Television, working directly with the center’s Board of Trustees.
