Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources
Marie Williams is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources at NC State University and currently serves as the National Board Chair for College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). Marie joined NC State in 2016, and since that time, she has been instrumental in working with her team, university leadership and campus partners to lead a major strategic, cultural and operational transformation of the HR operation at the university. This HR transformation involves embarking on a major cultural change initiative within human resources to adopt and embrace an HR agile culture and mindset at the university.
Prior to joining NC State, Williams served as the Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Administrative Services at Ball State, where she provided strategic leadership in human resources, payroll and employee benefits, employee relations, health and wellness and financial information services for the Business Affairs division. During her time there, she led initiatives that included implementing more effective and efficient processes, leveraging technology to automate key personnel actions and enhanced engagement with campus constituents by promoting a customer-centric culture.
Previously, Williams served as the Vice President for Finance and Administration at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, she held positions at Fisk that included Vice President for Administrative Services, Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of Human Resources.
Williams, a native of England, earned her Master’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern and earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and enterprise from the University of Central England.
Williams’ is an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow Class 2009-10 and is a Certified Agile Leader.
